Minimum Qualifications/Knowledge Required

  • Tertiary education with a First Degree in Computer Studies.
  • Thorough understanding of Programming Languages and the Fundamental of Programming
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Thorough understanding of the major operating systems and applications.
  • Understanding of LANs and WANs and good network troubleshooting abilities is an asset.
  • Additional education in managerial courses would be an asset.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven work experience leading a team of five or more computer software engineers or software developers.
  • Hands on experience in designing interactive applications
  • Hands on experience of the Scrum Agile process
  • Ability to develop software in PHP, Javascript, .Net, 4th Dimension, Java or other selected languages
  • Excellent knowledge of Relational Databases (MySQL, MSSQL. 4th Dimension) and SQL
  • Experience in developing web applications using at least one popular web framework (Laravel, Zend, Bootstrap, AngularJS, Slim)
  • Experience with test-driven development
  • Mastery in software engineering tools
  • Ability to document requirements and specifications
  • Familiarity with software development methodology and release processes
  • Must be highly motivated, responsible and possess initiative.
  • Skilled in identifying and providing solutions to problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with and through others.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Execute full lifecycle software development
  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code
  • Produce specifications and determine operational feasibility
  • Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures
  • Document and maintain software functionality
  • Tailor and deploy software tools, processes and metrics
  • Plan and organize code review meetings
  • Serve as a subject matter expert
  • Comply with project plans and industry standards
  • Provide development support to Application and Technical Team when needed and report unresolved problems to Development Director
  • Plan, implement and meet work volumes and status of assignments to ensure deadlines are met with minimal overtime.
  • Running of all daily processes for test/training environments according to stipulated guidelines or as specified by Senior Managers
  • Demonstrate service sensitivity by passing on escalating problems to the Development Director of EPIC TECHNOLOGIES to ensure that development decisions result in a minimum of business impact.
  • Assist in the transfer of skills gained through training and experience to other members of staff.
  • Recommend and implement suggestions to improve the overall efficiency of the department.
  • Full knowledge of all the projects Epic is involved in
  • In the absence of the director make an informed decision on the direction of the project
  • Carry out and enforce the Directors directives
  • Assist in the maintenance of the guidelines for the development team
  • Uphold the standards with all senior developers and or team leads and developers
  • Ensure that all documentation for applications are maintained and archived (Software requirements;UML;etc)
  • Assume Scrum Product owner responsibilities when players are unavailable
  • Assume Scrum Master responsibilities when players are unavailable
  • Upholding epic core values when making decisions
  • Upholding team harmony within the department
  • Build positive relationships with clients
  • Any other Duties assigned by supervisor
